There was a time when there were no phones, computers, television. The only way to express was to writing it down on paper and the only way to gain knowledge of anything was to read. Then the question is, how suddenly the medium of expressing stuff has been minimized just on 30 seconds status videos or 2-line memes and how does the source of knowledge have been reduced to Facebook newsfeeds and WhatsApp forwards?
The answer lies in the pattern of lifestyle that we are living in. Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, Tik Tok became an integral part of our lives, everyone has their accounts on at least one of these social media sites. We have the habit of reading stuff coming in the feeds, perhaps that became the only source of general awareness for us. We get to know about a rape case from a R.I.P. post, a countrywide protest from a religious or pro-politics page, a gold medal winner for the country from some other page. So that's sorted, there is nothing wrong in it, we at least get to know about what's happening in our country. But there is a serious issue about this easy way of gaining knowledge, we don't know how authentic the stuff is. It becomes more dangerous in case of negative news, a mob lynching case happened somewhere in the country could be tampered and then shown in the social media by the radical elements or recently there were posts, news, forwards and videos about the Corona virus outbreak, especially the videos in the circulation were without proper date and source of origin. We can just imagine the impact of such things on the viewers.
Though most of us, if not all, are aware, with a rational opinion about everything happening around, these things are in number, constantly being bombarded on us through the social media. We keep scrolling down, things come and go within seconds, but they are constantly feeded, thus impacting our subconscious mind and tampering our thought process. We are living a busy lifestyle and as I mentioned earlier, for a considerable part of the society, reading a newspaper or watching unbiased news channels is out of trend, they are too busy rather lazy for this. Trust me, in that case, it becomes very easy for the antisocial elements to misguide us on something, one post and that's it.
So, read whenever you are in doubt, don't follow a single source, Wikipedia is the fastest and closest to you. Nowadays there are allegations on some news channels to be biased, pro-government, others to be anti-national, in my opinion following national news channels like DD News or Rajyasabha TV to watch unbiased news could be preferred. Talking about the newspaper, keep variation, even the print media came under the allegation of being pro-government or anti-government. It's important to read because that will help us in creating a rational opinion and save us from being influenced by a particular ideology. A contribution of readers like you and bloggers like me is always welcomed.
Yes it's true... But as like coin has two sides same way it has also two sides. After all it depends on us what we choose.. Rather to being a responsible citizen or just be casual.
